Magnesium (+2) chloride (-1) is an ionic compound. Which is the chemical formula for magnesium chloride?

Well to satisfy the octet rule, you would need to have 8 electrons in the valence shell. +2 means that magnesium has two more protons than electrons, and -1 on the chlorine means that it has one more electron than proton. So the equation would be Mg(charge of +2)Cl2(charge of -1 * 2 atoms) MgCl2
