How does the ionic radius of a typical metal compare with its atomic radius?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Think of metals, such as those in the 1st and 2nd column of the period table. They have a tendency to become cations (that is they have a tendency to lose their electrons). So, if they have less electrons, their radius should be smaller than the radius for the neutral atom. So, the ionic radius should be smaller compared to the atomic radius.

i was thinking it was smaller but i wasnt sure how to word it
