What is the fifth term of the recursive formula \[a _{n}=2a _{n-1}-1\] with the first term of 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug 3 in for \[a _{n} \]. Set n = 1, then, solve for \[a _{n-1} = a _{1-1} = a _{0} \]. When you've determined \[a _{0} \], add 1 to it and solve for \[a _{2-1} = a _{1}. \]. Continue in this way until you've found \[a _{5} = a _{4} - 1\]
