1. Describe what it means for something to be an acid. 2. Describe titration. What happens during a titration lab, and what is the purpose? 3. How would you set up and solve the following problem? If it took 30.0 mL of 0.50 M NaOH to neutralize 15.0 mL of HNO3, what is the concentration (molarity) of the HNO3?

there are several characteristics of an acid, it usually starts with a hydrogen ion, it breaks down things, taste sour, can conduct electricity, reacts with bases, pH less than 7, reacts with carbonates/bicarbonates etc. 2. in a titration lab, you are determining the percentage of acidic acid with vinegar by using Phenolphthalein acid base indicator. the purpose of this is to determine if the brand of the vinegar is truthful with the concentration of its vinegar. (this is at least what i remembered when i did the titration lab) 3. MaVa = MbVb Mb = MaVa / Vb Mb = 30.0 mL * 0.50 M / 15.0 mL = 1M HNO3

acids also reacts with metals and are a proton donator
