Physics Problem PLEASE HELP!!! You are traveling on an airplane. The velocity of the plane with respect to the air is 150 m/s due east. The velocity of the air with respect to the ground is 36 m/s at an angle of 30° west of due north. What is the speed of the plane with respect to the ground?

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

air speed can be represented as v(air)=150 i. and wind speed will be v(wind)=-(36/2)i+((36*sqrt(3))/2) *j velocities are vectors, so they obey the laws of vector addition so add two vectors u will get speed of plane wrt grd

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

velocity wrt grd=135.5 m/s

Wow thats correct! Thanks! :) I got an answer of 154.3. dont know where I did wrong.

Be careful, Vp must be on the x axis in your solution. as said in the question 'The velocity of the plane with respect to the air is 150 m/s due EAST.'
