OpenStudy (lissiewalkin):

In a spontaneous electrochemical cell, at which electrode does reduction occur and at which electrode does oxidation occur? Can someone please explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Reduction is the gain of electrons and oxidation is the loss of electrons. So which side loses e's and which gains?

OpenStudy (lissiewalkin):

thanks for the help! would reduction occur from the anode to the cathode and oxidation from the cathode to the anode?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, so the cathode is reduced and the anode is oxidized.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which would make the anode negative and the cathode positive, so if that makes sense to you it's correct lol ^^

OpenStudy (lissiewalkin):

ahhh tha makes a lot more sense now :] thanks @KinzaN!

You're welcomee :D
