OpenStudy (jessica_leon93):

the empirical formula of a compound is determined to be CH, and its molecular mass is found to be 78.06 g/mol. determine the molecular formula of the compound

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Find the empirical molecular mass of CH, which is the molar mass of C plus molar mass of H. Can be found on the Periodic Table.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

It should be smaller than the molecular mass. So, divide the molecular mass by the empirical molecular mass. That should be some whole number quantity. Finally, multiply the subscripts of each element in the empirical formula by that quantity.

OpenStudy (jessica_leon93):

So complicated, lol

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Typing it out it is. ~_~

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

I'll get you started with the empirical molecular mass. Molar mass of C + molar mass of H = 12 g/mol + 1 g/mol = 13 g/mol
