Maximum buffer capacity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is the answer b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i calculated the pKa for all using pKb=log(-Kb) a. pKb= 4.74 b. pKb= 7.62 c. pKb= 11.9 d pKb= 11.24

OpenStudy (jfraser):

what's the relationship between pKA and pKB?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pKa is for acid and pKb is for base?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm having a hunch, isit because b is closer to b, at a range of +/- 1 ?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

True, but what do they have in common?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

when they give you KB, but ask for pH, finding pKB isn't the same as finding pH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so what am i supposed to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

henderson equation?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

remember that pKA + pKB = 14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh.. okay so means.. pKa=14-7.62=6.38? that would be the closest then, thanks! :D
