how to differentiate HBr(aq) and HI(aq)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No buddy to answer?

mathslover (mathslover):

Well, they can be differentiated on the basis of strength of acid character! HBr (aq) is weaker acid as compared to HI (aq) Also, as Iodine (I) has larger atomic radius than Bromine (Br) - so, the bond length of H - Br is lesser than bond length of H - I due to which the bond dissociation energy of H - Br is greater than for H - I

mathslover (mathslover):

There can be some more points but it basically depends on what basis are you trying to differentiate HBr and HI

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at boiling point of both of them. HI should have a higher boiling point because it has a stronger IMF (intermolecular force)
