In chemistry, there is class of compounds called alkanes. They have the general formula CxH2x+2, C stands for atom and H stands for a hydrogen atom. The subscript x stands for the number of carbon atoms, and the subscript 2x+2 stands for the number of hydrogen atoms in one molecule of the compound. Suppose an alkane had 8 carbon atoms. How many hydrogen atoms would it have?

I think you'd get more answers if you place this in the Chemistry sections :)

Alkanes are just a fancy way of saying sp^3 carbon bond structure. No double bonds. Think of a chain of carbons. like this. C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C there are 8 here. All the ones in the middle have two H the ones on the end have three. So there should be something like 18 H's on this particular alkanes. hope this helped.
