OpenStudy (ria23):

The data in the table show the amount of a 500 g sample of sodium-24 over time. (Table posted below) A.) Make a graph of the data B.) What is the half-life of sodium-24? Explain how you determined your answer. C.) Sodium-24 decays by beta emission. Write a nuclear equation that shows the decay of sodium-24 and its products.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you graph it?

OpenStudy (ria23):

No, I'm not sure on how I'm supposed to go about this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's part a... For part b, just locate the time that it takes for the total concentration to decrease by half. It should be fairly obvious if you look at the data. Notice that at time t=15, you have only 250g versus the original 500g, so that's your half-life For part c, you have to know that a beta decay reaction results in one extra proton and an electron. so... Na-24 should become Mg-24 with 1 electron, this is your products

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for part a, just plot it in the graph, with time being on the x-axis and mass of Na-24 being on the y-axis

OpenStudy (ria23):

With this problem, would I end up making two different graphs because there's two separate tables?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's the same table, they just cut it in two for some reason... but put it in the same one

OpenStudy (ria23):

Oh my goodness. o.o Yhur so awesome. Thank yhu so much. C:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're welcome :D
