Problem 5.65 A person on a sled coasts down a hill and then goes over a slight rise with speed 2.7 m/s. The top of this rise can be modeled as a circle of radius 4.1 m. The sled and occupant have a combined mass of 110 kg. If the coefficient of kinetic friction between the snow and the sled is 0.10, what friction force is exerted on the sled by the snow as the sled goes over the top of the rise? The answer is supposed to be 88.0 N. How do I get to the answer? (From a to z) I am trying to understand it, I am not looking for an easy solution. :)

random231 (random231):

so> when the body is going over the top what are the forces acting on it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just want to know how I can conclude the answer is 88.0 N :) That is the friction force on top of the rise.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Of course, but random231 is trying to lead you to the solution, so try to answer his questions as they come.

random231 (random231):

exactly !

random231 (random231):

you need to find the net force on the sledge!

random231 (random231):

arent you getting it ivan?

random231 (random231):

what wud be the net force if you consider the weight and the centrifugal force?

I cannot sit down with this at the moment; I will have to continue with my chemistry tasks. Thanks anyway! I might come back to this.
