for example you know 1mol of NaOH is required to react with 1 mol of HCl. you have xcm^3 of HCl but dont know the concentration. you drip NaOH into HCl and stop when there is a color change- indicating that the HCl has fully reacted. You then measure the amount of NaOH needed to fully react. and using the concentration (that you know) of NaOH, deduce the amount of NaOH reacted. from there you can deduce how many moles of HCl there are
