First actual question: does someone want to explain cathodes and anodes and how they affect oxidation numbers? Please help. Dx

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

There is an oxidation taking place at the anode. The compound easiest to be oxidised will react. The oxidation number of the central atom in the compound will increase. There is an reduction taking place at the cathode. The compound easiest to be reduced will react. The oxidation number of the central atom in the compound will decrease.
