A piece of aluminum occupies a volume of 12.7 milliliters and weighs 87.3 grams. What is its density of the aluminum rounded to the nearest hundredth? Only enter numerical values, which can include a decimal point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Density has an equation which is Mass / volume

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So they gave you the volume to be 12.7 ml and the mass to be 87.3 grams and they want the density

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so i times 12.7 and 87.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No that would be the case if the mass was given as density but since the equation is density is equal to the mass divided by the volume than we would do 87.3/12.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay got it thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the hundredth place means the second value after the decimal so there would be two digits after the decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got this answer 1108.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No you have to divide 87.3 by 12.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oohhh oops dumb moment sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer you got is by multiplying the two numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha its alright, the answer will be 6.874 but since they want to the nearest hundredth we eliminate the third digit after the decimal and since it is lower than 5 we do not round the second digit and hence the answer becomes 6.87

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks i have one more problem like this you think you wanna help mwaaaa please
