What is the difference between ionic and covalent bonding? I know ionic is between opposite charged ions, and covalent are formed by sharing electrons, but that's all I know. Could someone get more in depth on the difference between the two? Thank you!

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

ionic bonds are formed by tarnsfer of electron for example Na atom loses its one electron and forma Na+ and transfer that electrons to Cl and Cl by gaining that electron forms the Cl- since Na+ and Cl- are two oppositely charged ions, they bind together by electrostatic attraction:) hence the bond is formed know ans ionic bond |dw:1400334970437:dw|
