2. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). When you heat baking soda, it breaks down into sodium carbonate powder (Na2CO3), water vapor, and carbon dioxide. The enthalpy of this reaction is 129 kJ. Write a correct thermochemical equation for this reaction. How is this equation developed? What does this equation tell about the reaction?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so write the equation and place 129 kJ on the appropriate side (it's an endothermic reaction).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cant figure out what the equation would be .... this is an assignment from 2 months ago and i just got out of the hospital from a months stay an i dont remember any of this i had a lot of problems with a brain surgery i had and it affected my memory greatly

OpenStudy (aaronq):

sorry to hear that. Its this: \(NaHCO_3+129kJ\rightarrow Na_2CO_3+CO_2+H_2O\) i'll let you balance it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you im a lot better now then i was at least i dont have to take 8 medications anymore .... you seem like a really good person

OpenStudy (aaronq):

thanks. that's good, being on a lot of meds at once can't be too good for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it made me really weak

OpenStudy (aaronq):

:S well good luck with chemistry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks its a tough class when you have memory issues
