Two forces F1 and F2 with magnitudes 100 Newtons and 120 Newtons, respectively, act on an object at point P as shown in the figure (not to scale). figure and Question attched in comments. I really have no idea how to start, someone pls help.

im guessing this involves use og a.b=llallllbllcostheta...but not entirely sure how to use it in this context

Basically, you will have to add F1 which is 100 Newtons135° and F2 which is 120 Newtons 30° The first thing you must do is to get the horizontal and vertical components of both vectors. If you were given this problem you should at least be familiar with doing this.

F1 Horiz Component = 100 * cos (135°) = 100 * -.70711 = -70.711 F2 Horiz Component = 120 * cos (30°) = 120 * 0.86603 = 103.923 Horiz SUM = 33.212 F1 Vert Component = 100 * sin (135°) = 100 * 0.70711 = 70.711 F2 Vert Component = 120 * sin (30°) = 120 * .5 = 60 Vert SUM = 130.711 (Magnitude of the Resultant Vector)² = x² + y² Mag² = 33.212² + 130.711² Mag² = 1,103.04 + 1,7085.37 Mag² = 18,188.41 Magnitude = 134.86 Direction of Resultant Vector = Arc tan (Vert sum / Horiz sum) = Arc tan (130.711 / 33.212) = Arc tan (3.9357) = 75.744 Degrees So the magnitude and direction of the resultant vector is 134.86 magnitude and direction is 75.744 Degrees For a tutorial on vector addition: http://1728.org/vectutor.htm and a vector calculator is located here: http://1728.org/vectors.htm
