According to the theory developed by Charles Darwin, what process causes organisms to develop traits that help them adapt to changes in their environment?
Mutation
Natural selection is the process by which organisms change over time as a result of changes in heritable physical or behavioral traits. Changes that allow an organism to better adapt to its environment will help it survive and have more offspring.
@BEATZDJ indded natural selection helped to evolve but mtation was the process which helped the organism to develop traits that help them adapt to changes in their environment?
@Abhisar Mutation is a natural process that changes a DNA sequence.
Yes and so helps in developing new traits
Darwin's Theory of Evolution is the widely held notion that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor: the birds and the bananas, the fishes and the flowers -- all related. Darwin's general theory presumes the development of life from non-life and stresses a purely naturalistic (undirected) "descent with modification". That is, complex creatures evolve from more simplistic ancestors naturally over time. In a nutshell, as random genetic mutations occur within an organism's genetic code, the beneficial mutations are preserved because they aid survival -- a process known as "natural selection." These beneficial mutations are passed on to the next generation. Over time, beneficial mutations accumulate and the result is an entirely different organism (not just a variation of the original, but an entirely different creature).
"random genetic mutations occur within an organism's genetic code"
Now see what is question asking for ?
According to biology, the term 'evolution' has been defined as 'the change in the inherited traits of a population from a generation to the next'. The idea is that these genetic traits are passed on to offspring during the process of reproduction. New traits enter the genetic pool when either a population migrates from one habitat (area) to another and adapts or a species reproduces with another species. During this process, the 'final outcome' species that manage to adapt by either means survive, whereas the unfit ones become extinct. This process is called Natural Selection. The Theory of Evolution based on the process of Natural Selection was first propounded by Charles Darwin in his book 'On the Origin of Species' published in 1859. In that book Darwin also maintained that all the species have descended from a common genetic pool. This theory has formed the basis of modern biological thought which explains the diversity of life on Earth.
The question wants us to tell "what process causes organisms to develop traits that help them adapt to changes in their environment?"
The process is mutation according to darwin....
In the websites I visit, excluding wikipedia, all mention a process called 'Natural Selection', which is by Charles Darwin. I have not seen any process called 'mutation' mentioned.
its adaptation and survival of the fittest
I'm sorry but I have to argue against that
Now these mutation if benificial are carried to next gen via natural selection
darwin called mutation as sports
Charles Darwin theory is the NATURAL SELECTION process. It is as clear as day. I admit that mutation is also mention in the context of the theory but it does not say MUTATION PROCESS Within the explanations of Darwin's Theory of Evolution it has also been explained that the process of Natural Selection ensures that these genetic changes enhance the process of reproduction and they become more common from this generation to the next. Thus, many traits which are proved to be useful are passed on to the offspring. More offspring are produced so that this process can work and ensure that the surviving offspring are the ones which are best suited or adapted to the new habitat or environment.
Dear @BEATZDJ Natural selection is a process which helps in evolution
Natural selection does nothing but selects the fittest
For remain fittest in changing environmental condition, organisms need to develop favouravle traitsfavourable
This job is done by mutation or sports or as darwin called it then
*for = to
The question asks which process does the job of developing new traits ?
and hence i am advocating for mutation
Natural selection Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection is one of the best substantiated theories in the history of science, supported by evidence from a wide variety of scientific disciplines, including paleontology, geology, genetics and developmental biology. To understand the origin of whales, it's necessary to have a basic understanding of how natural selection works: It is the process by which organisms change over time as a result of changes in heritable physical or behavioral traits. Changes that allow an organism to better adapt to its environment will help it survive and have more offspring. Natural selection can change a species in small ways, causing a population to change color or size over the course of several generations. This is called "microevolution." But natural selection is also capable of much more. Given enough time and enough accumulated changes, natural selection can create entirely new species. It can turn dinosaurs into birds, apes into humans and amphibious mammals into whales. Mutations The physical and behavioral changes that make natural selection possible happen at the level of DNA and genes. Such changes are called "mutations." Mutations can be caused by chemical or radiation damage or errors in DNA replication. Mutations can even be deliberately induced in order to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Most times, mutations are either harmful or neutral but in rare instances, a mutation might prove beneficial to the organism. If so, it will become more prevalent in the next generation and spread throughout the population. In this way, natural selection guides the evolutionary process, preserving and adding up the beneficial mutations and rejecting the bad ones.
I'm leaving this to @leeor01 Whether my NATURAL SELECTION or @Abhisar MUTATION PROCESS is right, it's upto him.
Natural selection does not allows an organism to adapt better it selects the organisms which can adapt better..........There is a big difference in both !!!
This feels like a debate or rather we already are...so I'm just gonna leave it at that. All my concrete evidences are above and already stated and proofed by which I use no wikipedia relations.
Here i go with @BEATZDJ ..its Natural Selection in the case of Charles Darwins' thoughts and @Abhisar ..DeVries thought about Mutation and Not Darwin According to DeVries...the process causes organisms to develop traits that help them adapt to changes in their environment is mutation but it was Charles Darwin that thought about Natural Selection..:)
If you're right, @Abhisar , I apologise from pushing my view too far. I will say this: I'm not an evolutionist.
@shreehari499 It's Natural Selection?
:D ha ha neither i am
lol
Yeah...Darwin did not even agree with the word MUTATION! He completely disagreed with DeVries and considered completely false...:) But at last Darwin's principles were considered..:) One step Large Mutation according to DeVries!
Anyways thnx for being a part of this beautiful convo guys !!
Lol these was fun...debating once in while ain't that bad
Yeah!
Never knew biology was this cool!
Wish @leeor01 is online
well he'll come sometime :D
So guys I conclude this debate by telling u THANK YOU! The answer is Natural Selection!
And see how i was nailed !!!!!!!
Wow I guess I won...but thanx anyway for debating with me...now I can ask my science teach about this...wonder what he thinks
Yes u won...basically i swapped Devries with darwin
Better not Debate with him! :) :p
Humans are not perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.
Yesssssss....He is a evolutionary pro ...!!
NATURALLY SELECTED :D
And here's a *slap* from Darwin! jst jokin!
? whose evolutionary pro? Charles darwin?
yES
He only did one theory, as far as I know...
Hmmmmm...anyways Lets conclude this convo now..!!
Yeah, its open study after all
Nice debating with all of ya!
