Which of the following is a bronsted-lowry acid? Which of the following is a conjugated base? In the chemical equation under H3O is a/an? HCL+H2O right arrow H3O + Cl

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Bronsted-Lowry acids donate \(H^+\), and bases accept them. In the equation above HCl is the acid and \(H_2O\) is the base. the conjugate base (note that conjugated and conjugate is not the same thing; the term "conjugated" relates to delocalization of electrons) and conjugate acid are present in the products side. \(HCl+H_2O \rightarrow \color{red}{H_3O^+ + Cl^-}\) They have the same definition but they are related to the previous substances. For example, \(H_2O\) was the base, but not it's \(H_3O^+\) and will act as an acid, because of that \(H^+\) that can dissociate, so it's the conjugate acid.
