You want to prepare a 2M solution of NaCl. To do so, you weighed out 116.886g of NaCl and then added enough water to get 500ml of solution. Explain whether the solution prepared is of the correct concentration. If not, what should be correct procedure?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

use the molarity formula to check whether or not the concentration sought was achieved.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, i change the mass of NaCl to number of moles of NaCl and the volume to litre and then i use the formula M= No. of moles of solute / volume of solution. after that i compare with the 2M?? is it correct?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yes, that is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thanks^^

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no problem !

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

Yup that's the correct way to do it.
