WILL GIVE MEDAL AND FAV!!!! PLEASE HELP! 1.The reaction between C2H6 and Cl2 is by addition. true or false 2. Benzene reacts with Cl2 by substitution true or false 3. Energy is necessary to chlorinate methane. true or false 4. More activation energy is required to halogenate alkanes than to halogenate alkenes. True or false 5. Alkanes are more reactive than Alkenes. True or False

OpenStudy (somy):

its false alkane and halogen reaction is only by substitution and the product is halogenalkane C2H6 + Cl2 -> C2H5Cl + HCl

OpenStudy (somy):

H in C2H6 is substituted by one atom of Cl while other atom of Cl takes that H to form acid HCl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is false the can only be done through the process of substitution or another prcess but i dont remember it off the top of my head

OpenStudy (somy):

there is no another process since Alkanes are mostly unreactive @austin_coleman its only substitution reaction

OpenStudy (somy):

to get a deeper understanding its good to know the mechanism of this reaction and the steps are Initiation, propagation and termination though i don't know if you need to know that for this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought that there was one other i guess not .. probably why i couldnt think of it lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If someone can answer all of them correctly I will give a you a medal and fan!!! I don't understand chemistry at all despite all my studying so all I can do is memorize things but I need to know the answers before I can memorize them!

OpenStudy (somy):

3 is true , sunlight is used as energy since its needed for formation of free radicals

OpenStudy (somy):

5 its false Alkanes are less reactive then Alkenes because it is fully saturated with hydrogen atoms

OpenStudy (somy):

2 i think its false because benzene has double bond so addition is more favorable i'd say

OpenStudy (somy):

im not really sure about 4 but i think its false because double bond in alkene is stronger the single bond in alkanes thus i would expect the activation energy for Alkanes to be less than for Alkenes

Okay thank you so much! You have beeen such a help!

OpenStudy (somy):

you are welcome i hope you understand reasons since in science its important to understand rather then just learn :D @impossiblegirl776
