In the chemical reaction shown below, which element was oxidized? 4Fe + 3O2 yields 2Fe2O3 Fe, because it gained 3 electrons Fe, because it lost 3 electrons <--? O, because it gained 2 electrons O, because it lost 2 electrons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4Fe + 3O2 ---> 2Fe2O3

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

OIL RIG = Oxidation is loosing electrons, Reduction is gaining electrons. Now what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't it be B? Or since you said that it might be D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think c now

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

It's actually "Fe, because it lost 3 electrons" You have to figure out the oxidation numbers of each element, then look at what happened in the reaction in the products.

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

Yup, good job.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so it's b or c haha

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

B
