Which of the following reactions represents a decomposition reaction? A) metal + nonmetal binary ionic compound B) aqueous solution 1 + aqueous solution 2 precipitate + aqueous solution 3 C) metal carbonate metal oxide + carbon dioxide D) Metal 1 + aqueous solution 1 metal 2 + aqueous solution 2

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Choice A is a synthesis reaction, I believe an anion and cation combine to form a binary compound. Choice B is a double-displace reaction because a precipate was formed. Choice D is, um, idr. .-. Not a decomp. reaction Choice C is definitely a decomposition reaction. You start off with a metal carbonate. It decomposes to a metal oxide plus carbon dioxide, which are the products.
