Topic: Base e and Natural Logarithms Directions: Solve each equation or inequality round to nearest ten thousandth Problem: e^5x+4>34

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

have you covered logarithms yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001 Yes its the end of the year and she wants us to refresh our memory so I need to see the steps

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf e^{5x}+4>34\quad ?\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

or is it \(\bf e^{5x+4}>34\quad ?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001 Your first guess

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Subtract 4 from both sides and get \[e ^{5x}>30\]Now take the natural log (ln) of both sides. The natural log of \[e ^{5x}\], that is, ln(e^5x) is just 5x. So 5x > 3.4012 (that's what you get when you take the ln(30)). Now divide both sides by 5. So x = .680
