OpenStudy (aaronq):

For 21, if a carbon is attached to 4 different things, then it's chiral

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Q23 try to draw them all out, i get 9

OpenStudy (abmon98):

i solved 23 but i took alot of time to do it

OpenStudy (aaronq):

k cool, 29 only 1. is correct

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i mean 39.

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Why is option 2 incorrect

OpenStudy (abmon98):

is it because all groups attatched to the centre carbon are identical

OpenStudy (aaronq):

to do an elimination you need a leaving group on the beta carbon (the carbon beside the alcohol) notice that the central carbon is quaternary, also you wont break the C-C bonds like this.

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Do you mean there arent any carbon to remove the hydrogen to form a double because they are alchohol and there is just a centre carbon reaching its octet

OpenStudy (abmon98):

double bond*

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i mean that in order to make the double bond you'd need to break a C-C bond, which is not going to happen - methanol cations are not stable.

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Thank you :)
