Write the electron configurations of the ions in NaF, MgCl2, CaO, and KBr. (b) Which ions in part a are isoelectronic with neon atoms? I understand the premise of electron configurations my question is how exactly do you find one of an ion? for example MgCl2 do you break them up into Mg+2 and Cl- and do each individually?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup that's exactly how you should do it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok awesome but in order to answer the second part would each part(Mg+2Cl-) equal to neon, assuming it was isoelectronic with it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mg+2 is isoelectronic with neon, but Cl- is isoelectronic with argon
