Acetone and water are miscible. Acetone and hexane are also miscible. What is the possible explanation for their miscibilities, considering that water and hexane are immiscible?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The C=O bond makes acetone miscible and the C-C-C chain makes it miscible with hexane. The C=O is polar with water, and the C-C-C is non polar with hexane (like dissolves like). However, Hexane is non-polar and water is polar, so hexane is immiscible in water.

Hmmm makes sense. Thank You very much! :-)
