Medal and fan A student was adding NaOH to two different acid solutions. If the acids both have an initial pH of 4.5, which statement is true regarding the amount of NaOH added to each acid? A. HF will require less NaOH than HCl because HCl is a weak acid B. HCl will require more NaOH than HF because HF is a weak acid C. Adding NaOH will not bring the pH of either solution to pH 7. D. Both acids require the same amount of NaOH because they are both at the same intial pH. It would be B, correct?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

"require more NaOH" to do what?

OpenStudy (somy):

@aaronq acids HCl and HF

OpenStudy (somy):

i think its B also

OpenStudy (somy):

A is wrong because HCL is a stronger acid C is wrong because NaOH neutralizes both acids

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't state to do what, I'm only naturally assuming the question means to make the solution less acidic by adding a base.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It can't be D either since weaker acids don't dissociate as well as strong acids so the pH will be different.

OpenStudy (somy):

yeah so we are left with B

OpenStudy (somy):

since HF really is a weaker acid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I'm gonna guess with that. I just needed second opinions.
