1 1/2 X 1 2/5
This is a multiplication problem involving "mixed numbers." You'll find it much easier to do this multiplication if you'd re-write each mixed number as an improper fraction: \[1\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }=\frac{ 3 }{ 2},~and~1\frac{ 2 }{ 5 }=\frac{ 7 }{ 2 }.\]Please go ahead and multiply: (3/2)(7/2), or\[\frac{ 3 }{ 2 }\frac{ 7 }{ 2 }=?\]
Note that you could also convert the given mixed numbers to mixed numbers with decimal fractions. 1 1/2 becomes 1.5 and 1 2/5 becomes 1.4. Try multiplying: (1.5)(1.4). Compare your result here to your previous result.
6/14?
2.1??
yes
thank you!!!
off to write a paper!!!
Sorry to "rain on your parade," but \[\frac{ 3 }{ 2 }\frac{ 7 }{ 2 }\] does not equal 6/14. You apparently assumed that this was an equation (which it is not) and tried cross-multiplication. NO. Instead, MULTIPLY these two fractions together, as per "1 1/2 X 1 2/5".
now i got 5 1/4 and that is not one of my answers.... now i am completely lost...
ok i got 2 1/10
