OpenStudy (anonymous):

an atom with an even number of electrons is always diamagnetic

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

typically in an atom with an even number of electrons they are all paired up and is therefore diamagnetic. But it depends on the lewis structure or not as well.

OpenStudy (alphadxg):

you got it?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

You determine using oribital notation. If a subshell is filled it is diamagnetic if not it is paramagnetic. Not all atoms with an even number of electrons are diamagnetic.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

example is Oxygen... it is paramagnetic due to its orbital notation of |dw:1403388533368:dw|
