6. What is the difference between a substance that is being oxidised and an oxidising agent?

OpenStudy (somy):

Oxidizing agent gains electron Substance being oxidized loses electron

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Oxidation is loss of electrons. When a substance is oxidised if looses some of its electrons. An Oxidising Agent is a substance that undergoes Reduction (reduction is gain of electrons), and in the process can be used to oxidise another substance. The oxidising agent is itself reduced, whereas a reducing agent is itself oxidised as the electrons are passed form one substance to the other.

Thank you :)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

The terminology is clunky here but its not too complicated, it's a bit like the difference between a employee and an employer
