Okay, in SnSO4.. How did you know the Tin was Tin(II)?

Check its oxidation State

We know \[SO _4^{-2}\]. My teacher taught me that when we write equations, we drop and switch. \[Sn ^{+2}\] \[SO _4^{-2}\] we drop the two, so the equation would be SnSO_4, but we still have the ionic charges to deal with, so the real equation should be: \[Sn _{2}(SO _{4})_{2}\] But since there are two 2's, we cancel them out. If you know that the sulfate ion has a -2 charge, but you dont see it in the equation, that means that it was canceled out. What cancels (or simplifies, but not in this case) a 2? another 2.
