An irregularly shaped solid which has a mass of 10.283g was placed in a graduated cylinder containing an inert liquid. The initial volume of liquid was read as 6.26mL. The solid was completely submerged in the liquid and the total volume of the liquid plus solid was read as 8.89mL. Calculate the density of the solid.

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

The volume of the solid will be 8.89 mL - 6.26 mL. The displaced volume in the graduated cylinder tells us the volume of the solid that is submerged. Then, use this formula for density. \[density = \frac{mass}{Volume}\]

So will it be 3.909g/mL?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Yesh.
