which of the following elements(identified by their place in the periodic table would be most electronegative: a. group IV, Period 2 b. Group VI, period 2 c. Group VI, period 3 d. group VII, period4
Electronegativity increases across the period and decreases as down we go down the group
i am stuck between c and d. flourine is the most electronegative and is located in group 7 so would that be the answer?
why would the answer be c, but not d?
The answer would be d, bromine
the answer the key gives is c and it says that most EN has highest group # and lowest period #. idk how to choose which is more electronegative when they only one off of eachother. I thought it was d too
thats is very weird. Because i think its B Oxygen is the closest to Florine so i'd expect it to have highest value for electronegativity. its not bromine because its way below florine, and we do know that electronegativity decreases down the group
lol you are right, @Somy i didn't see oxygen was in there. Br is more EN than S though.
yeah yeah thats why i believe its supposed to be B @aaronq lol
so i emailed the prep class and he says it was experimental and that sometimes the answers are plain out wrong. He believes it is B, but the key says it is C. thanks for the help anyway
i see :) no problem :))
