Just Isotopes :) I was asked to determine the element. The given was 17 protons. by that I was able to determine it is Chlorine. P+ = 17 e- = 17 n = 18 Atomic no. is 17 Mass no. is 35 . So how do I write it ?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Atomic number is equal to the number of protons. So 17 protons means atomic number 17 that in turn means its chlorine.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Also mass number is the sum of no of neutrons and no of protons. S number of neutrons = 35-17=18

OpenStudy (yamyam70):

Cool, is the number of electrons are corrrect? Because most of my friends said it was 18 electrons and wrote it as CL^-1

OpenStudy (abhisar):

No of protons is equal to number of electrons in an neutral atom. According to ur question electron =17

OpenStudy (abhisar):

*a neutral
