Sorry I'm back. GCD= greatest common denominator It actually should be LCD where L is just Least It basically lets you have the same denominators since you can only add fractions that have the same denominator \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }+\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\] cannot just be added together
they have to have the same denominator which is 6 and to get them to have a denominator of 6 you got to perform the specific operation on each, 2 times 3 will get you 6 and 3 by 2 will get you 6 so you have to do \[\frac{ 1 }{ 2 } \times \frac{ 3 }{ 3 }=\frac{ 3 }{ 6 }\] \[\frac{ 1 }{ 3 } \times \frac{2}{2}=\frac{2}{6}\] Now you can add these fractions in my example since they have the same denominator \[\frac{3}{6}+\frac{2}{6}=\frac{5}{6}\]
