Which part of speech is the underlined word? Cody ducked and was in the *clear* when the ball headed toward him. A. adverb B. preposition C. conjunction D. noun
the answer is D. noun
no because isnt cody the noun
there can be more than one noun in a sentance
yeah but clear isn't a person place or thing
a noun is a person place or item clear in this case is a place so it would be considered a noun
I know for a fact it's not a noun hmmmm.
*clear* as in like, not getting caught doing something.
here in this sentence it is a place therfore it is considered a noun
Now that I re-read it, it makes more sense. Because he's saying they are in the "clear" which is a place on the court.
yesso now we all agree that the answer is D. noun:)
ok
let me see if its correct
drumroll
is it correct?
There may be many nouns and verbs in a sentence. Some people say "the noun of the sentence" when they really mean "the subject." The subject is the noun that does the action when the sentence is in the active voice. People say "the verb of the sentence" when they really mean "the predicate." People who do this may know no better. Or they may be trying to dumb things down for students. I happen to think it would be less confusing to use the more specific words. A noun may be the subject, it may be the object or indirect object of a transitive verb, or it may be a predicate nominative which is a noun link to the subject by a copulative (linking) verb. A noun may also indicate the person a speech is addressed to.
oh yeah it was a noun thanks
You're welcome.
