Think of the lateral area as a triangle with height of 32, and a base the same as the circumference of the cone at its base. My calculation for that is 20 pi. So the area of the triangle will be \[A=\frac{bh}{2}=\frac{20 \pi*32}{2}=320 \pi \approx 1005\]
