What is the oxidation half-reaction in the following chemical reaction? Fe(s) + 3AgNO3 Ag + Fe(NO3)3
Please help me explain steps by steps, specifically. Thanks :)
Redox reaction are reaction which involve the simultaneous loss and gain of electrons. Redox got its name because it is a combination of reduction and oxidation, oxidation is the loss of electrons. A half reaction is where either the individual reduction or oxidation are shown in their own equation. \[Fe+3e \rightarrow Fe ^{3+} \] This shows that the iron loses three electrons therefore it is experiencing a loss of electrons.
Thus it is oxidation.
Not sure if this helps.
Oxidation numbers are a whole different thing to me, i never liked them. And that means i never learnt them, sorry i cant help.
Thanks nspire. I'm reading your document kametri7. I really do appreciate you guys for your valuable time. Furthermore, i will reward a medal to the best answer. :)
