OpenStudy (asib1214):

when gases are sold they are usually compressed to high pressure. For example, when you buy propane for your barbecue, your tank is placed on a scalewhile it is filled under high pressure. This lets the service person known when the tank is full. Discuss why gases, such as barbecue propane gas, are sold by mass and not by volume.

OpenStudy (asib1214):

is it because at a STP, if you take a mol is any gas, the volume of the gas will always be 22.4L but their mass will be different depending on the molar mass of the gas.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gases can occupy any volume. A small mass can translate into a large volume for a gas. It is more practical to use mass to measure.
