-C-C=C-C- Assuming the carbons have all paired their spare electrons. what is the name of this hydrocarbon? Can someone please help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We know it is an alkene. Right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since there are 4 carbons, that would make it butane.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But we have to specify where the double bond is located.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will be the 2nd carbon in either direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 2-butene

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't mean butane earlier, it is butene

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Is it part of a longer chain, treated as a substituent or is it just those carbons?
