Which of the following will favor a spontaneous change? +ΔH −ΔH +ΔS −ΔS Answer I only II and IV III only II and III

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Um... Which one is which lol is it order? I II III IV

OpenStudy (abb0t):

I believe you have to base this using gibbs, because it can be spontaneous at various values under certain conditions and temperatures. But, generally, when entropy is > 0 and enthalpy < 0, it is spontaneous at ALL temps.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

However, you know that when \(\sf \Delta\)G < 0, it is spontaneous.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is what @abb0t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if memory serves then when ΔS is positive and ΔH is negative, a process is always spontaneous so im thinking its ll and lll

OpenStudy (abb0t):

entropy > 0 enthalpy < 0

OpenStudy (abb0t):

That is true, @VioletStargrazer but a process an also be spontenous when entropy < 0 and enthalpy < 0 under low temperature.s

OpenStudy (abb0t):

But you are correct with your assumption. That is a general case.

thanks you abbot
