well you would have y = a(x - 9)^2 + 22 now pick a value for a, that is between -4 and 4 say 2 y = 2(x - 9)^2 + 22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! So now for step two I would turn that into standard form but how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im gonna try first lol

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

for step 2 you can leave it in vertex form find f(4) anf f(7) then the average rate of change is \[\frac{f(7) - f(4)}{7 - 4}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I leave the average rate just like that? and in order to graph it I would have to change it to standard form right?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

now you need to get a number answer f(4) = 2(4 - 9)^2 + 22 = 50 + 22 f(4) = 72 f(7) = 2( 7 - 9)^2 + 22 = 30 so avg rate of change = ( 30 - 72)/(7 - 4)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

then just calculate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the average rate be 14 or -14?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well its negative...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would that be all for the whole thing besides the graphing?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well you need to convert it to standard form reading the question... but that seems to only thing left... when you get the standard form you should try and find the zeros... to help with graphing, you know the vertex. A graphing option is this link https://www.desmos.com/calculator
