What is the chemical formula of copper II sulfide?

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Copper (II) Sulfide. The 'II' represents the ion charge of the copper. Since copper is a metal, the atom(s) in this compound will have a charge of +2. The 'sulfide' comes from an ionic bond with a sulfate polyatomic ion. Sulfate is SO4, with an ion charge of -2. c:

OpenStudy (jfraser):

sulfide and sulfate and NOT the same ions. The polyatomic \(SO_4^{-2}\) ion is the sulfate ion. The sulfide ion is a single sulfur atom that has gained 2 electrons to fill its valence shell, and has the formula \(S^{-2}\). Copper (II) sulfide, then, is this: \(CuS\) NOT \(CuSO_4\)

Smh, thanks Fraser.
