I chose a laptop that costs $249, socks that cost $5, and a T.V. that costs $300.

Variation is the average squared difference between the cost of an item and the mean cost.

\[\frac{ (249-184.67)^2+(249-5)^2+(249-300)^2 }{ 3 }\]
