Ok so, there is a formula to find the partial sum of a geometric series: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/series/sum19.gif The difference is because you have a minus 1 after the i, you need to calculate to the 6th term using this formula then add on the 0th term.

a is 4 in this case. n is 6. add the 0th term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in addtion, this series does not converge because |3| is not less than 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand? Just use the formula to calculate it out to the 6th term (forget the i-1) and then add in the 0th term separately.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4 \left( \frac{ 1-3^6 }{ 1-3 } \right)\]

this is the formula to compute partial sums the nth term.

OpenStudy (midhun.madhu1987):

putting the values of i=1 to 7 we get the following: 4 x 3^0 + 4 x 3^1 + 4 x 3^2...... + 4 x 3^7|dw:1407032923829:dw| please try to do this way..
