among 400 randomly selected drivers in the 20-24 age bracket, 136 went without a car accident during last year. If a driver in that age bracket is randomly selected, what is the approximate probability that he or she will be in an accident during the next year? I'm no good in probability so if you could explain it step by step that'd be lovely.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The first step is to find out how many drivers in the sample of 400 drivers were involved in an accident during last year. Hint: We know that 136 out of the 400 went without an accident during last year.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

264 were involved in the accident out of the 400.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

You are correct. The approximate probability that he or she will be in an accident during the next year is given by: \[\large \frac{264}{400}=you\ can\ simplify\ the\ fraction\ if\ needed\]
