Which statement represents dehydration synthesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dehydration means the loss of water from a molecule. Dehydration synthesis refers to an anabolic reaction where water is lost. The definition for dehydration synthesis is: The process of joining monomers to form a polymer while losing water. Monomers lose -OH and because this is unstable it reacts with H to form H2O :)

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

Dehydration synthesis occurs when smaller molecules are joined together to form a larger molecule. In the process, a molecule of water is lost. Examples- 1.Monosaccharides joining via glycosidic bonds to form polysaccharides such as starch. 2.Fatty acids joining to glycerol to produce a triglyceride. 3.Nucleotides joining by phosphodiester bonds to form nucleic acids (RNA & DNA). 4.Monosaccharides joining to form disaccharides eg. -glucose + glucose to give maltose.
