the idea is not to change the value of the original number just to express it differently to write the number in the general form if you move the decimal to the left you are dividing. count the number of places moved and multiply by 10 to that many places to keep the balance. Similarly if you move to the right you are multiplying so multiply by 10 to the negative of that many places moved to keep the balance. remember the rules for exponents. when you multiply numbers with the same base add the powers, when you divide you subtract the powers. ( when you subtract you are adding a negative)
